Did you know Karl Rosenow threw a perfect game?

In case you didn't know, Karl also holds the club record for games played, pitches thrown, strikes thrown, balls thrown, strikeouts, walks, hits against, outs made, hit batsman, bull pen sessions thrown with his wife Ruth mid-week, kilometers on a bike to and from training (and games) and consecutive years hosting the clubs player review (anyone remember the Bush Tucker man).

But on the 17th of December, Karl was simply unhittable. 9 innings pitched, 83 pitches, 71 strikes, 15 strikeouts and zero balls leaving the infield. Karl was so dominant, on top of his 15 strikeouts he had 6 comebackers and caught two pop ups for 23 of the 27 outs. Fortunately, Steve Laidler was awake for his two ground balls at second and Jeff Maddaford was paying attention for his one ground ball at shortstop. Of course, there was no issue with Andrew Taylor making has one play at catcher as he had a front seat to Karl's masterclass.

The game was a close one into the 5th so Karls perfecto was important for the win, to top things off Karl also hit a double in the 8th to break the game open. The 6-0 scoreline was a perfect back drop to Karls box score:

9.0 innings pitched, zero hits, zero walks, zero runs against.

Karl is still a constant down at the club and he is only too happy to talk about this magical Sunday afternoon in the safe confides of the E grade circle on a Thursday night. (2025)

A Perfect Games one week, a State League no hitters the next.

On the 27th of February 2000, Mark Cook bamboozled one of the best Wanneroo teams there has been. Mark is one of the greatest to ever wear a Morley uniform and on this day, he may have been as good as he ever was. Any team with Kevin Hooker in it is going to be tough, but this Wanneroo team was filled with state league, ABL and professional players and could only manage two base runners; a walk and an error (Sean Jones redeemed himself, see below).

The complete game no hitter required 103 pitches and 69 strikes, included 6 strikeouts with only 3 balls leaving the infield. There was solid defense in support, but the no hitter was never really in doubt. To underline the importance of the pitching effort, Morley would go on to win the game 1-0, with the only run an RBI double from Morley and Perth Heat legend Sean Jones, scoring a little know catcher from Morley.

For years this motley crew had been best on ground for many a Thursday night at Crimea, but in 94/95 it all came together for one memorable Sunday. The season was a dominant one and the guys topped off with a faultless grand final performance.

Can you pick any familiar faces from this lot, some famous names in Morley's history are present and you will still see some of them floating around on the occasional Sunday at Crimea Park.

The Eagles were established in 1956 and originally played as the American Eagles, during these early years our home ground was the Lake Monger Reserve in Wembley.

In 1963, with the commencement of district baseball in Perth, the club’s name changed to East Perth Eagles and we relocated to Perth Oval. The club played there until October 1971, when footballs use of the Perth Oval became a priority, resulting in a move to Bassendean Oval. In 1972 we became the Eagles Baseball Club.

The 1977 season saw one of the most significant moments in our history with a new ground established at Crimea Park, George Jones led the charge, and the plans were submitted and accepted, the planning for this has stood the test of time with the ground (outside of a few improvements) remaining largely unchanged.

In 1979, the name Morley Eagles Baseball Club was adopted.

These guys put together one of the most dominant seasons in Morleys history.

An undefeated season leading to a straight sets run through the finals and ultimately a victory in the big dance.

The 97-98 state league ressies team was filled with past and future state league players and coached by a legend fresh from stepping down as Morley's State League coach.

The starting pitcher won 14 games that year with a sub 3 ERA. 7 guys hit over .400, 5 guys had a batting average over .450 and two guys over .490. Three player hit 10 or more home runs for the year.

All this came together for one year of dominance

In one of the best weeks at the club every year, this week we will remember one of the most loved characters in our history, Graeme "Spider" Webb.

In advance of this weekend's Webb Gordon cup, we take a look back at what made this day great, and why we remember Graeme, who tragically lost hist battle with cancer in 2014.

Graeme started playing teeball at Morley in 1984 as a 6-year-old and continued his connection with the club until his passing. Graeme played, coached, was on the committee and was central to so much of what happened at Morley over his life. He was a clubman of the year and genuinely loved by all. Such was Graeme's standing that the Webb Gordon cup was started the year after his death.

Adam Gordon was held in a similar light at Swans and lost his battle with cancer also in 2014 only weeks apart from Graeme. The link is even stronger with Adam's sons, Zai and Hunter, both now promising junior playing at Morley.

The tragic loss of two great men so close together inspired Morley and Swans to remember how much they both meant by initiating the Webb Gordon cup. Not only do our two State League clubs play for the cup, but annually some old timers who played with both Graeme and Adam dust off the baseball gear and play a commemorative game for nothing more than a chance to honour the two legends.

Did you know that when the master's competition resumed in 2005/6 after an 8-year layoff, The Eagles (aka Morley Eagles) won the first year back, were narrowly beaten in the second year and then reeled off 14 straight Grand Final wins to make it 15 in 16 years.

There was also a small startup season in 2004/5 just to test out the new ball park, we won that too!

The Crimea Park club rooms are aptly named the Ron Malcolm (Snr) Hall. The Malcolm family have been at The Eagles from the start and Rons great grand daughter Peyton and great grandson Riley are playing juniors currently, and there hasn't been a gap over the years. Ron did just about everything at Morley and was a regular at the club until his passing, Rons wife Lorraine doesn't miss too may games either, juniors or seniors

ill Mazeroski's Game 7 walk off in 1960 to give the Pirates the win, Joe Carter walking it off for the Blue Jays in 1993, Luis Gonzalez getting a hit of Mariano Rivera in 2001 to get the Diamondbacks their first World Series victory, and Simon Bevilacqua's 5th inning double to give the G Bangers a win for the ages in 2024. You can argue the order, but this is arguably the Mount Rushmore of moments in the finals.

The G Bangers, as they are affectionately known, are as big a part of Morley Eagles as Trish Williamson's green pencil. They start training a week after the season finishes each year, they are the amongst the first to arrive on a Thursday night for training and one of the last teams to leave. They train on most days ending in a "Y" during the winter and whether they win by 20, lose by 15 or play one of the 6 Carine social grade teams in the 8-team division, you will always see them enjoying baseball.

2024 was their year, they were hot but had to come up against one of many Carine teams in the big dance, a daunting prospect. Simon Bevilaqua got the start and a 6-2 lead in the third felt like the right place to be. The hits were coming (10-8) and Carine were finding ways to implode (5 errors, which coincidently isn't abnormal in N3 grade, to Morley's 1). But, after 75 pitches, it was time for Simo to hand the ball over to John Purdy.......

Now Johnny is as reliable as the day is long and meticulous to a fault. His Thursday night bullpen routine of coming straight from the office, leaving the work slacks and button up shirt on and simply swapping the hush puppies for a pair of Dunlop Volleys and hoping on the mound for a quick session has served him well for years. On this day however, the Carine bats awoke in the 4th and 5th and they put up a pair of three run innings to take an 8-6 lead into the bottom of the last.

Now for the dramatic!! Cale Ogilvie-Ford was the first man up drawing a walk! Ethan Calder-Wood then stepped up with a single to left!!

John "The Professor" Purdy, with a point to prove, was next up singling on what Game Changer described as a "hard ground ball to center", some say it was estimated to be 115 MPH off the bat, making it 8-7!!!

Rob Lockwood drew a 6 pitch walk to load the bases, still with no one out!!!!

Enter Simon Bevilacqua, with ice in his veins and a quiet confidence, Simo doubled to left making it 9-8, and the rest as they say, is history! Simo's son was so excited he rushed the field to give dad a hug!

89/90.......What a year

Nelson Mandella is released from jail, the Berlin Wall finally falls, and the Hubble telescope was launched into space. Another significant historical event you may not remember as well was our E graders becoming legends winning the flag!!
